The Institute for Structural Research (IBS) is an economic think tank. The main fields of its research are the labour market, public finances, energy and climate. IBS works for the major public and private institutions, such as the World Bank, the OECD, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland and the National Bank of Poland.

In the autumn of 2015 The Codeine was asked to rework the branding of the Institute. IBS, which was becoming one of the most important think tanks in Europe, needed a new way of visual communication.
Scope
Branding
Input
The task was to create a new, modern and well-organised visual communication for a well-known brand.
Process
We decided to use the Institute’s logo as a metaphor of its main activities. We wanted it to symbolise the process of analysis and of splitting a problem into parts in search of the underlying rules and patterns.
Output
We came up with an elegant and balanced logo: the wordmark is the acronym of the name and the symbol above maintains the letters’ tracking. We also created a coherent brand book describing the ways of using the new logo.
