Golem (2015-2017)

The Golem project is a spectacular initiative to build a supercomputer using worldwide decentralized computing. Whether you have a simple laptop, a working station or a cluster, you can contribute to and use the power of Golem. The system is built with the Ethereum-based Blockchain technology.

In 2015 The Codeine was asked to create visual identity and a website for this project. We loved the inspiring name and the idea from the start, and the owners of Golem granted us full creative freedom. In the very same year the project was launched, and in the following year, during the official crowdfunding (ICO), Golem earned 8 million dollars in barely thirty minutes, beating a couple of records and gaining international recognition.
Scope
Branding, Web design, Web development, Print
Input
The challenge was to present a brand new idea with a great potential. The Golem project is a vision of the future, a sci-fi story coming to life. There was no competition to speak of and therefore no points of reference.
Process
We drew inspiration from mysticism and antiquity, from the Greek concept of hyle (philosophical “matter” or “stuff”) and a vertical column-like rhythm. All this symbolised the dormant power of the Golem.
Output
We created a strong visual identity with an intriguing typographic logo. The monumental and abstract character of the brand is emphasised by large key visuals (animated with JavaScript and canvas) which represent the network of Golem users.
